Discover our Unrefined Baobab Oil

Baobab oil is a natural oil extracted from the seeds of the baobab tree (Adansonia), a genus of trees native to Africa, Madagascar, and parts of Australia and the Middle East. The most commonly used species for oil production is Adansonia digitata, known as the African baobab. Often called the "Tree of Life," the baobab is iconic for its massive trunk, longevity (some trees live over 1,000 years), and ability to thrive in arid environments. The oil comes from the hard, black seeds found within the tree’s fruit, a pod-like structure filled with a dry, powdery pulp and kidney-shaped seeds.

Baobab oil is prized for its versatility:
- Cosmetics: Its lightweight, non-greasy texture makes it a favorite in skincare and haircare. It hydrates and softens dry skin, improves elasticity, and may reduce the appearance of fine lines due to its antioxidant content.
- For hair, it nourishes the scalp, strengthens strands, and adds shine without weighing it down. It’s common in moisturizers, serums, balms, and conditioners.
- Culinary: While the oil itself isn’t widely used for cooking, the fruit pulp is edible and often consumed as a nutrient-rich food or drink in Africa. The oil’s mild flavor could theoretically substitute for other oils, but it’s more valued in beauty applications.
- Traditional Medicine: In African cultures, baobab oil has been used to soothe burns, heal wounds, reduce inflammation, and treat skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, thanks to its emollient and anti-inflammatory properties.

Characteristics of Baobab Oil:
- Appearance: Pale yellow to golden, with a silky, smooth consistency that absorbs quickly into the skin.
- Scent: Mild and nutty, sometimes faintly earthy, making it neutral enough to blend with other ingredients in formulations.
- Stability: It has a relatively long shelf life (up to two years if stored properly) due to its natural antioxidants, resisting oxidation despite its polyunsaturated fat content.
